EU POPs regulations set limit requirements for hexachlorobenzene!

About POPs regulations:

POPs (Persistent Organic Pollutants) is a regulation (No. 850/2004) passed by the European Parliament and Council of the European Union (EU) in 2004 to regulate a variety of persistent organic pollutants commonly used in industrial and consumer products. On June 25, 2019, the EU issued a new regulation on POPs (EU) 2019/1021, which came into effect on July 15, 2019, and repealed the original regulation (No. 850/2004).

The purpose of this regulation is to protect the environment and human health by promoting the elimination and reduction of persistent organic pollutants, given the harm they can cause.

The regulation mainly targets organic substances that persist in the environment, accumulate in living organisms, and pose a threat to our health and the environment, such as pesticides, flame retardants, and perfluorinated compounds.

The European Union (EU) Official Journal announced on November 23, 2022, the introduction of an authorized act (EU) 2022/2291 which modifies Annex I A of the POP Regulation by adding a threshold for unintentional trace contaminant (UTC) of hexachlorobenzene (HCB). This authorized act will take effect 20 days after its publication and will be binding on all member states.

Hexachlorobenzene (HCB) can be found as an impurity in various substances, mixtures, and products such as pesticides, chlorinated solvents, inks, coatings, paints, colorants, wood, textiles, and plastics.

To bring clarity to the legal framework governing the use of HCB as a UTC and ensure enforcement, the Commission determined a UTC limit of 10 mg/kg (0.001% by weight) for HCB.

Mattzon Warm Reminder:

POPs is one of the key enforcement inspection projects of the European Union in recent years. There have been multiple reports in the EU RAPEX non-compliance system of cases that violate EU POPs regulations, which should be taken seriously by enterprises exporting to the EU. Pay attention to the latest EU regulations and avoid non-compliant products that may cause losses.

So all our Mattzon products are not only with CE, RoHS but with REACH certificates and we can sign POPs declarations to our customers in Europe.
